1-Q. How much is the ECU
Upgrade?
1-A. Call us for the price of your
ECU upgrade.
2-Q. How long does it
take to upgrade the ECU?
2-A. Please allow 2 hours to upgrade
the ECU. The procedure is complex and requires diagnostics
time before the upgrade. In all cases, the upgrade will
be done while you wait.
3-Q. Is the ECU upgrade
detectable?
3-A. No, it is totally invisible.
4-Q. How will it affect
my dealer warranty?
4-A. No, the ECU upgrade does not invalidate
the manufacturer 3yr / 60K warranty
5-Q. Will the upgrade
affect my insurance?
5-A. Technically it does, but the ECU
upgrade is undetectable. It is up to you to notify your
insurance company.
6-Q. What is involved
in the upgrade?
6-A. Depending on your car, your ECU
is either reprogrammed through the diagnostic port,
or the EPROM in the ECU is reprogrammed with the ECU
out of the car.
7-Q. What warranty is
offered?
7-A. The ECU upgrade is guaranteed
for life.
8-Q. Does the upgrade
result in any adverse effects on the engine or transmission?
8-A. No. Reliability and longevity
are not compromised at all. Your driving style and maintenance
routine will determine the reliability and longevity
of your vehicle, whether it is standard or upgraded.
9-Q. Why doesn't the manufacturer
upgrade the ECU from the factory?
9-A. Because they need to build in
tolerance for owner abuse and to minimise cost. The
engine must cope with poor petrol, lack of servicing,
and general abuse. If you service the car regularly,
use high grade fuel, and change the oil regularly, the
engine can be optimised for better performance without
compromising reliability.
10-Q. What petrol should
I use once the ECU is upgraded?
10-A. We always recommend Shell Optimax.
If not available, we recommend Super Unleaded, then
a branded Premium Unleaded. You should avoid supermarket
petrol at all cost. The petrol ECU upgrades are designed
for 98 RON fuel.
11-Q. Will my fuel economy
change?
11-A. Fuel economy with the RICA ECU
upgrades will improve in 99% of cases. Expect approximately
10% better fuel economy. Most of our customers have
seen an extra 4 - 6 mpg.
12-Q. Do I need a performance
exhaust or a race-cat?
12-A. No! A performance exhaust or
race-cat is entirely optional. You will get slightly
better performance with one though.
13-Q. What about an induction
kit?
13-A. You should remove your induction
kit, replace it with the standard air box and fit a
performance panel filter. Most induction kits draw hot
air from the engine bay which results in a decrease
in power.
14-Q. Can I use a bleed
valve with my turbo engine when the ECU is upgraded?
14-A. No. Our ECU reprogram increases
the boost, and therefore no bleed-valve is required.
If you have one fitted, it will need to be removed before
the ECU is upgraded.
